Assessment instructions for Students
Your rights
As a student you have a right to know:
– what assessment standards will be applied to the course/unit you are undertaking,
– what assessment process you will be asked to meet,
– what you are required to do, and
– what happens when the activity is completed
Assessment Standards
Most accredited courses contain standards and evidence requirements which need to be met to enable an Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to deem a student competent.
Assessment Process
When RTOs develop assessment criteria they must meet rules of evidence.
Students will be assessed against the following four rules:
As an RTO we need to make sure that when gathering evidence about competency, the responses and information provided by students are:
– valid, the evidence must clearly align with the requirements of the unit.
– authentic, the evidence must be the work of the student.
– current, evidence must be collected within a reasonable time, and
– sufficient, there must be enough evidence to support the assessment.
We will assess your work using a range of methods:
– verbal questions and answers
– written question and answers
– project work
– role plays
– observation
– scenarios
– third party report
– portfolio of evidence
Resources available
Before the commencement of each unit, you will be provided with:
– Learning Resource Book, which provides all the reference material for the course.
– Assessment material, which provides the questions you will be required to answer plus the project work required.
You may also be provided with links to youtube for interesting video material and useful text books. These resources will be value adding and not essential to achieving your competency.
Allowable interaction and plagiarism
You are permitted to ask questions of your trainer and receive help where you need support. You are also permitted to work in groups with other students, provided you declare that you have worked in groups.
You are also permitted to conduct research, through the internet or other resources, but you must not directly copy work of others, If you use a source in your work, you must state the origin of the source of reference.
In all cases you are responsible for ensuring the work submitted is your own work.
What happens after you submit your assessment tasks?
Your trainer or assessor will examine your work and decide whether it meets the criteria of valid, authentic, current and sufficient. If it meets the criteria the work will be marked competent and another unit issued or if that completes the course, the credential.
If the work does not meet the criteria it will be marked not yet competent and you will be given feedback about what more you need to do and given another opportunity to submit your work.
You will have another opportunity to resubmit work on a unit if it is deemed not yet competent.
